Sustainable Jewelry

Global diamond is an $81.4 billion-a-year industry that links the mines of Africa, home to 65% of the world’s diamonds, with the sparkling salesrooms of high-end jewelry retailers around the world. It is an industry that was supposed to be cleaned up, after the turn-of-the-millennium notoriety surrounding so-called blood or conflict diamonds—precious stones mined in African war zones, often by forced labor and used to fund armed rebel movements. In 2003 the diamond industry established the Kimberley Process, an international certification system designed to reassure consumers that the diamonds they bought were conflict free.

The Kimberley Process grew out of a 2000 meeting in Kimberley, South Africa, when the world’s major diamond producers and buyers met to address growing concerns, and the threat of a consumer boycott, over the sale of rough, uncut diamonds to fund the brutal civil wars of Angola and Sierra Leone—inspiration for the 2006 film Blood Diamond. By 2003, 52 governments, as well as international advocacy groups, had ratified the scheme, establishing a system of diamond “passports” issued from the country of origin that would accompany every shipment of rough diamonds around the world. Countries that could not prove that their diamonds were conflict-free could be suspended from the international diamond trade.

The Kimberley Process was hailed as a major step toward ending diamond-fueled conflict. Ian Smillie, one of the early architects of the process and an authority on conflict diamonds, estimates that only 5% to 10% of the world’s diamonds are traded illegally now compared with 25% before 2003, a huge boon for producing nations that have a better chance at earning an income off their natural resources.

As a result, PAIRIE maintains an ongoing environmental consciousness and fair trade awareness in our manufacturing and souring processes and in the lives of all of our associates. We are committed to conducting all operations in the most socially responsible manner possible from our recycled metals to our ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones.

We believe it is our duty to improve the lives of our associates and ensure they are compensated fairly for their labor. By supporting ethical suppliers and every facet of fair trade jewelry, we believe we can make a difference in our communities.

And just as we are committed to bettering the global jewelry industry, we are committed to making our own local community a better place.

In the meantime, given the unpleasant realities of the diamond business, it would be tempting to forgo buying a diamond altogether or to choose to purchase a synthetic alternative. At PAIRIE, we also offer lab-grown diamonds and gemstones and diamond and gemstone simulants as eco-friendly alternatives.

Together, we are committed to offer conflict-free and ethical sourcing and materials to reinforce sustainable fine jewelry.

 Recycled Metals

At PAIRIE, we emphasis ethical sourcing and environmental sustainability in all aspects of our operations. This includes using 100% recycled materials in our manufacturing processes.

We can choose recycled metals to decrease the global demand for newly mined gold. This will diminish the environmentally and socially destructive effects of dirty gold and other metal mining practices. Because precious metals can be recycled repeatedly without degradation in quality, they are a naturally renewable resource.

 Ethically Sourced Diamonds

PAIRIE procures the majority of its diamonds directly from suppliers that cut and polished diamonds that originate from Canada, South Africa, Botswana, Russia, Australia, and Namibia. Together, we are committed to boosting consumer confidence in diamonds.

Conflict-free Diamonds

We are committed to use conflict-free and ethically sourced diamonds. We believe it is completely unacceptable to tolerate conflict diamonds and human suffering in any way.

All rough and polished mined diamonds comply with the Kimberly Process, which ensures rough diamonds are:

✨ Exported and imported with a government-validated certificate stating the diamonds are conflict-free.

✨ Transported between signatory countries in a sealed, tamper-proof container.

✨ Sold with a statement from the seller on all invoices guaranteeing the diamonds sold are conflict-free.

 Gemstone Sourcing

PAIRIE adheres to strict protocols in regards to the sourcing of both lab-grown and mined gemstones. As a natural resource, gemstones can be found almost anywhere, but they are mined, cut, and exchanged too frequently to keep traceable documentation of their exact source.

However, we engage in several practices to ensure the integrity of the gemstones we purchase and believe in creating an open dialogue about gemstone sourcing to be as transparent and trustworthy as possible.

 Lab-grown Diamonds and Gemstones

Lab-grown diamonds and gemstones are the result of an industrial process as opposed to the geological process that creates natural diamonds. Although grown by scientists instead of created in the earth’s crust, lab diamonds and gemstones are absolutely real diamonds and gemstones—they display the same chemical and optical properties as natural diamonds and gemstones. PAIRIE also provides lab-grown diamonds and gemstones as eco-friendly alternative.

 Diamond and Gemstone Simulants

A diamond or gemstone simulant is an object or material with gemological characteristics similar to those of a diamond or gemstone. While their material properties depart markedly from those of diamond or gemstone, simulants have certain desired characteristics—such as dispersion and hardness—which lend themselves to imitation. The most common diamond simulants are high-leaded glass (i.e., rhinestones) and cubic zirconia (CZ), both artificial materials. Eco-friendly and economical option.

Affordable Jewelry

The impact of recent financial crisis in 2008 is still vivid. According to NBC news in 2018, majority of millennials are in debt, hitting pause on major life events. A quarter of millennials are over $30,000 in debt, including 11% who are over $100,000 in debt. Only 22% of millennials are debt free. This situation gives us an opportunity to rethink and inspires us to reevaluate fine jewelry market then we realize traditional fine jewelers mark up unreasonably which scares people away.

At PAIRIE, we believe women jewelry is one of the best approaches to inspire beauty, creativity, and confidence for majority not minority. We want to address the concern and make fine jewelry more affordable so that people can enjoy and have more options. Therefore, we collaborate with the same manufacturer that produces Tiffany & Co. jewelry to offer the highest standard of craftsmanship but more affordable price range with multiple payment methods and financial options. After all, why pay more for less?

- Cut out middleman to offer 60%-70% cheaper than traditional retail price.

- 0% interest for 3 installment payments.

- Pay off in 18 months with 11.99% APR.
